How to Know if Life Coaching is the Career for You

There are many factors to consider if you’re considering becoming a life coach. Many of the people who join our coach training program share with us that they are curious about what makes humans “tick,” are often empathetic listeners that people trust, and they have a desire to help others. Those skills tie in to key coaching competencies such as active listening, staying open and curious, asking open questions that keep the client’s learning at the forefront of the work, and translating insight into action.

Some things people often fail to mention? You need to be willing to tolerate uncertainty, support people with discomfort without “fixing,” and move between both cognitive strategies (like reframing a negative thought) as well as somatic coaching techniques such as helping clients with presence and mindfulness.

Starting a Coach Training Career: What Happens After Training?

Many of our coach training graduates have gone on to start podcasts, lead retreats, and have businesses with one-on-one clients. Others have gone to work for coaching organizations like EZRA, Lyra, or BetterUp, where the clients are brought to them. Other graduates use their coach training skills in their daily lives, or they use them in their salaried jobs as managers within an organization.
